Help Bring Google to Your City with Javascript

So, like many of you, I am frothing at the mouth over the possibility of getting Google Fiber to come to my city. The mere prospect of downloading at a Gig per second is enough to leave me visibly shaken. So, the first thing I did was go to nominate my city, Durham, NC. After doing so, I realized it was going to take a much greater effort to accomplish this. So I threw together a geolocation javascript that looks for visitors to my site in Durham and then implores that they too go nominate our city.

Here is the script.

Just switch out the city and state with your own and copy and paste the script onto any page you like. It will look something like this…

Help Bring Google to #YourCity#!

Google has just announced their plan to roll out INCREDIBLY fast internet at or below current costs – at speeds up to 100 times faster than the fastest we have available in #YourCity#. Unfortunately, they are only rolling this out in a few cities to start, and they are choosing it based on the response they get from the community. We need this service for job growth and educational opportunities in #YourCity#, #State#. Please go to this page to fill out request. You will need to login using a Gmail account. If you don’t have one, you can get it for free here. Thanks. Together we can bring Google to #YourCity#.

I agree that if the Google ISP comes to Boston (my city) then I will be jumping around! 🙂

Is this script something that Google provided you or did you create this? I want to make sure before I install it on some of my sites.

Hi, I found this blog article while searching for help with JavaScript. I’ve recently switched browsers from Safari to Firefox 3.2. Just recently I seem to have a problem with loading JavaScript. Everytime I go on a site that requires Javascript, the page freezes and I get a “runtime error javascript.JSException: Unknown name”. I can’t seem to find out how to fix it. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks
